Clarendon County Elections Board approves new precinct location in Summerton

Posted

The Clarendon County Voter Registration and Elections Board held its regularly scheduled meeting on June 5, where board members voted to approve an official new precinct location and received updates from the interim director on training and outreach efforts.

The board unanimously approved the addition of Summerton No. 4 as a new precinct, located at North Santee Station 12, 1023 Palmer Road in Summerton. Interim Executive Director Alfreda Langhorne confirmed that the South Carolina State Election Commission has already listed the location on its official SCVotes.gov website following approval by the state delegation and the governor. The site has also met Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance standards.

Langhorne noted that a finalized list of all up-to-date polling locations will be made available on the local administration’s website soon.

During her report, Langhorne highlighted the completion of orientation for all current board members and shared that ongoing training sessions for staff and volunteers are scheduled throughout the month. She also discussed voter outreach efforts through a partnership with the Harvin Clarendon County Library’s bookmobile, which now regularly distributes voter information materials.

The meeting also addressed lingering vacancies on the board. Member Brian Magaw was absent, and board members acknowledged that a replacement is still needed following the resignation of Rebecca Battle-Bryant.

No members of the public signed up to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting.

The board continued discussions from previous meetings regarding whether to utilize the county’s IT department for tasks such as recording and broadcasting meetings, as well as the possibility of using the county attorney for legal support. No votes were taken on either matter, and the board remains in the process of assessing cost-effectiveness.

The meeting entered Executive Session to address personnel and contractual matters, but no official action was taken when the board returned to open session.

The next regularly scheduled meeting date will be announced via the Clarendon County Voter Registration and Elections website and social media channels.
