The Clarendon County Council convened on July 8th for its regular monthly meeting, with Vice Chair Councilman W.J. Frierson presiding in the absence of Chairman Dwight Stewart. The meeting commenced with the approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous month.

Thomasina Hall presented service awards to several county employees. Jennifer Manning was recognized for five years of service with Civil Court administration at the Magistrate’s office. Benjamin Homes received an award for his five years as a part-time firefighter, while Jeremy Gaines was honored for his five years as a heavy equipment operator with the Public Works Department. Bernard Morris was acknowledged for his ten years of service in maintenance with the Recreational Department, Aretha Stevens for ten years in custodial services across two facilities, and Michael Stinney for his decade-long tenure in facilities management.

No public comments were made during the meeting. Following the service awards, Councilman Frierson presented Robert Gibbons with a plaque for his 26 years of dedicated service to the Clarendon County Planning Commission.

The council proceeded to appoint Jay Bruner to the Clarendon Behavioral Health Services Board, representing District One.

Former Clarendon County Director of Tourism, along with Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce Director Jennie Lee, delivered a presentation on tourism-related expenses. They requested $67,500 for the Chamber of Commerce’s ongoing tourism promotional program for Fiscal Year 2025, a request which the council unanimously approved.

The meeting continued with a discussion on an Intergovernmental Agreement between Clarendon County and the Town of Turbeville, in which the county provides code enforcement services to the town for a fee. This agreement was also unanimously approved.
