City of Manning re-introduces tip line

The City of Manning Police Department recently re-introduced their Crime Tip Line after several years.

The Tip line, which acts as a way for citizens to report crime anonymously, will be advertised via roadside signs and flyer’s throughout the town.

“Any criminal activity that you see in the area can be reported to this line,” said Manning Police Department Chief of Police, Keith Grice. “However, I would like to add that if it is an emergency, you call 911.”

Grice says that the line should be used, and encourages its use, for minor reports.

“If you have an abandoned vehicle or want to report a missing person, feel free to call that line,” said Grice. “Anything of that nature is welcome there.”

All calls have the option of remaining anonymous, something that Grice says is extended across the entire department.

“Even if an individual does not call the tip line, they can still remain anonymous at the police department,” said Grice. “We don’t want to put any citizen in harms way by broadcasting their name.”

Grice says the reason for reinstating the tip line was a need for it within the station.

“Back during the summer, we realized that we got a lot of phone calls from different individuals around the city who had ideas about break-ins or other criminal activity,” said Grice. “However, some of those individuals are reluctant to give information  in fear of their name being publicized.”

This was a major factor when considering the re-instatement of the tip line.

“Some people think that things they report are very minor,” said Grice. “That doesn’t matter to us. If we get a call, we always look into it as quickly as possible.

The tip line was re-instated around three weeks ago, and the City is  working hard to publicize it in the coming weeks.
