The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating the death of a Manning man after what initially appeared to be a suicide was determined to be a suspicious shooting.
Deputies responded Saturday, June 13, to a residence in the Tara Lane area of Clarendon County, where they found Homero Zunan Gonzales, 56, deceased with a gunshot wound to the upper body. After further assessment, investigators determined the injury did not appear to be self-inflicted, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators with the sheriff's office and SLED crime scene agents processed the scene. Authorities said preliminary findings indicate the incident appears to be isolated.
Clarendon County Coroner Dr. Jacqueline Blackwell said an autopsy is scheduled Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The investigation remains ongoing.
