Dr. Jacqueline Inabinette, Assistant Superintendent of Administration for Clarendon County School District, has been named the 2023 SIC Advocate of the Year by the SC School Improvement Council (SC-SIC) Board of Trustees.

The award was presented Saturday at a ceremony and luncheon hosted by SC-SIC at the SC State Museum in Columbia. The SIC Advocate of the Year Award recognizes exemplary efforts on behalf of School Improvement Councils across South Carolina by individuals and others supporting and promoting the

work of SICs within their spheres of influence. Previous recipients of this award have included principals, superintendents, SIC District Contacts, school board members, state education leaders, legislators, and others.

“We salute Dr. Inabinette’s work and ongoing support of public education, the vital roles of the SC School Improvement Council, and the efforts of local SICs in parental and community engagement within their communities,” said SC-SIC Board of Trustees Chair Stewart Cooner. “Her passion and dedication are most evident and have made a meaningful impact on so many who are grateful for her service.”

Dr. Inabinette, an Orangeburg native and graduate of South Carolina State University, holds an

Educational Specialist Degree and Doctorate in Education Leadership in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, and a Counselor Education master’s degree. She has served in many roles throughout her time as an educator; first as a bus driver, a middle

school teacher, a high school guidance counselor, an elementary school curriculum coordinator, and many more leading to her role as Assistant Superintendent in Clarendon County. Dr. Inabinette’s professional titles may have changed over the years but her unwavering commitment to education, engagement, and advocacy have remained steadfast.

“My goal is one day to operate within a system where we dispel a lot of the myths that exist,” she said. “The way we are going to do it is by joining hands, educating and informing each other, and nurturing each other as we go through the process.”

Part of the Center for Education Partnerships within the University of South Carolina College of Education, the SC School Improvement Council (SC-SIC) was established in state law over 45 years ago to provide the member training, technical assistance, statutory accountability, and other operational resources necessary for the continued success of the community-based SICs in each of the state’s 1,110-plus K-12 public schools.
