CCFR promotes fire safety during National Fire Prevention Week

Posted

Clarendon County Fire Rescue (CCFR) is joining departments nationwide in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, held October 5–12, with a focus on lithium-ion battery safety under this year’s theme, Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.
Partnering with Johnson James State Farm, CCFR is distributing fire prevention kits and educational materials to families throughout the county. The donation helps the department share important information on preventing home fires and promoting safe practices for charging and recycling devices that use lithium-ion batteries.

“This partnership allows us to continue spreading fire safety awareness in our community,” the department wrote in a recent post, expressing appreciation for State Farm’s continued support.

In preparation for Fire Prevention Week, CCFR members placed educational signs at stations across the county and are offering to visit schools, churches, and businesses to present safety information. “Let’s come together to increase awareness about fire safety and prevention,” the department said. “Join us in learning tips to protect your home and loved ones.”

The department’s outreach emphasizes three key tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):

  • Buy only listed products with certified safety marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA.
  • Charge devices safely using manufacturer-approved cords and chargers, and avoid overcharging.
  • Recycle batteries responsibly by taking them to approved recycling locations instead of throwing them in household trash.

Fire Prevention Week has been observed annually in the United States since 1922 and serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety education in reducing preventable injuries and deaths.
