Camp Happy Days, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children battling pediatric cancer, will return to Camp Bob Cooper on Lake Marion this summer with a weeklong camp from June 29 through July 5.
This year’s theme, CAMPchella, takes inspiration from the iconic Coachella music festival and promises a fun-filled week of confidence-building activities, lasting friendships, and the simple joy of being a kid.
More than 200 campers are expected to attend the program, which remains free for families. Camp Happy Days serves over 2,000 children across South Carolina annually through year-round programs at no cost to families, with summer camp being the organization’s flagship initiative since 1983.
“In South Carolina, more than 200 children are diagnosed with cancer each year,” said Executive Director Cindy Hay Johnson in a letter to supporters. “With the support of generous communities like Manning, Summerton, and Clarendon County, we are working toward our goal of reaching every family in the state affected by pediatric cancer.”
The nonprofit is also preparing for a transition in leadership as longtime volunteer Bill Ellis retires after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Ellis has been instrumental in creating unforgettable camp experiences, and his departure opens the door for Johnson and Director of Development Mikaela Hopkins to continue his legacy.
Camp Happy Days is seeking donations to ensure the continued success of this program and its outreach. “Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to making a lasting impact on children facing the challenges of pediatric cancer,” Hopkins said.
