Antique shop opens in Summerton

In Summerton, SC, a new business has recently unveiled itself to the community. Fox & Mills Vintage Finds and Antique shop has set itself up as the communities access to all things vintage.

”My mother used to own a Christian bookstore 20 years ago in Summerton,” said owner Jane Mills. “Her name is Barbara Carter. The bookstore was called Carter’s Christian Books and Gifts. It was during that time, Summerton was booming. There were a lot of antique shops and auctions on the weekends. I lived in West Virginia then, but we will visit Summerton on the weekends.”

The antique shop is a retail store specializing in the selling of antiques. Like most antique shops, it can be located either locally or, with the Internet’s help, found online.

“I have had the most unexpected benefits from having this store,” continued Mills. “During the summer and on the weekend, the people I have met from the lake have been wonderful.”

After moving to Manning, Mills became her father’s caretaker. She knew that there was something she could do to help the community, and she noticed most of the buildings in Summerton were boarded up. Mrs. Mill wants to make sure she does her part for the community by providing people with services not offered anywhere else.

“This is not what my background was, I have a college degree in social work,” said Mills. She is cur- rently married to Knox Mills with two children and is an alumna of the University of Montevallo, a public university in Montevallo, Alabama, founded in 1896. After working as a social worker for over a decade, Mrs. Mills has done it all from child abuse investigation to working customer service at Tuomey Hospital. Once she retired, she found her passion and a new hobby in her antique shop. Satisfying the customers while serving the community is what she is all about. Mrs. Mills is dedicated to her job and willing to do all she can to assist. If her shop doesn’t have what you are looking for, then Mrs. Mills will make it her business to find you the antique you have been searching for.

Her favorite quote is, “Every act of reconciliation requires the death of someone or something. For us to be reconciled with God, it took the death of Jesus Christ. For us to be reconciled with each other, it will take the death of pride and self-interests.”

She has also been working with other antique shops like Shared Treasures owned by Brennan and Linda Guy. If you are someone you know may be interested in visiting and supporting the shop. They are located at 116 Main Street Summerton, SC 29148. They are open Thursday-Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm or by appointments if you call (803) 225-2558.
