Scott’s Branch High School will usher in the Wayne Farmer era by travelling to Lake View today for a non-region game against the Wild Gators.
Wayne Farmer begins his first year as the head football coach at Scott’s Branch after a two-decade career coaching high schools in South Carolina. The Eagles have won only two games the past two years and have gone through four coaches since 2011. However, just prior to that, the Eagles were a Class A powerhouse, winning state championships in 2008 and 2010.

The Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats will play host 7:30 p.m. today to Gray Collegiate Academy of West Columbia, at Billy Chitwood Field.
It will be former Manning High School coach Robbie Briggs’ second season leading the swampcats. And he will be facing a student in this first game of the season: Gray Collegiate Academy is coached by Adam Holmes, a former player at Manning High.
Holmes also played for Brad Scott and Lou Holtz as a Gamecock before coaching at a number of schools throughout the state. He recently led the Orangeburg Prep Indians from 2008-13 before starting with Gray … Read the rest

Dispatchers have reported a man shooting at a home on Audrey Road off Paxville Highway in Manning. Witnesses told deputies, according to dispatchers, that they believe the shooter was a man wearing a white T-shirt riding in the back of a green Chevrolet Malibu. No one was hurt in the incident.

Five engines from the Clarendon County Fire Department responded about an hour ago to a home on Caldwell Street in Summerton due to an electrical fire. A firefighter on scene said the fire only caused smoke throughout the home, and that it was contained before causing any substantial damage.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a traffic hazard at the 109 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. According to reports, a vehicle has lost a tire and is halfway in one of the lanes.

PINEWOOD – Willie Edward Johnson, 76, husband of Reba Diane Pack Johnson, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at his home.
Born June 28, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Ollie Lester “Rooster” Johnson and May Bell Johnson Johnson. He was a 1956 graduate of Pinewood High School and a veteran of the S.C. Air National Guard. The S.C. Highway Patrol is currently responding to a wreck with no injuries at the 120 mile-marker in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95. They are also helping a motorist at the 111 mile-marker in the southbound lanes. Traffic may be slower during this time.

BLACKVILLE — The Clarendon Hall JV football team put a checkmark in the win column to open its season. The Saints picked up the 44-8 win against Jefferson Davis Academy on Thursday.
Kameron Earles carried the weight on offense with nine carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Way picked up 78 yards off five carries and found the endzone rushing the ball twice. Way was also went 5-7 with 66 yards in the air and had one passing touchdown. Wide receiver Ben Corbett caught three balls from Way that produced 46 yards and one touchdown.

Zachary Deon Boulware of 1549 527 Subdivision Road in New Zion pleaded guilty Aug. 13 before 3rd Circuit Judge R. Ferrell Cothran during a term of Clarendon County General Sessions Court to failure to stop for a blue light, and received three years in prison, suspended to time-served and two years’ probation.
