Culinary Arts Students at FEDCC complete kitchen fire safety training

Posted

Culinary Arts students at F. E. DuBose Career Center recently completed fire safety training with Captain Jamie Nance of the Clarendon County Fire Department.  During their unit of study, students learned how to prevent kitchen fires and what to do if a fire occurs in a commercial kitchen.  Captain Nance explained the purposes of the kitchen hood fire suppression systems and discussed how these are inspected by the local fire department.  The training culminated with a demonstration on how to use a fire extinguisher, where students were able to show their skill with the PASS technique in a controlled fire situation.  Thanks to Captain Nance for working with our students and supporting their understanding of fire safety.  The Culinary Arts program is led by instructor Chef Jean Shaw.
