Swampcats defeat Pinewood Prep

The Laurence Manning Academy varsity baseball team completed a series sweep against Pinewood Prep on Saturday afternoon. Aaron Carlton showed timely hitting, driving in five on three hits to lead the Swampcats past Pinewood Prep by a score of 11-1. Carlton drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a home run in the second,and a single in the sixth. LMA grabbed an early lead. The Swampcats scored on a sacrifice fly by Carlton in the first inning; a single by Brewer Brunson in the second inning; a single by Burgess Jordan in the second inning; and a home run by Carlton in the second inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Pinewood Prep tied things up at 1. Noah Cadiz drove in one when he singled LMA pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Brunson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Jordan singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Carlton homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. J.T. Stanley led the varsity Swampcats to victory on the pitcher's mound. He allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out five. Seth Stamps threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Maddox Webb was on the mound for Pinewood Prep. He went five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking one. Parker White threw two innings out of the bullpen. The Swampcats hit one home run on the day. Carlton had a dinger in the second inning. LMA scattered 12 hits in the game. Carlton, Brunson and Stanley each collected multiple hits for the Swampcats. Brunson and Carlton each managed three hits to lead LMA. The Swampcats play at 6 p.m. today at Wilson Hall.
