Council on Aging to hold Fall Festival

The Clarendon County Council on Aging will hold its Fall Festival events from Nov. 3-4. The Sip for Seniors and Silent Auction will be held from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 3. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at either of the Senior Centers. Free Family Fun will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 4, with refreshments available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Senior Centers and Meals on Wheels. Donations will also be accepted.

Fred Jones, 71, husband of Geraldine Jefferson-Jones, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at his home.
Born Jan. 15, 1946, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Lee and Lucille M. Jones.
The family will receive friends at the home, 2150 Avenue C in Mayesville.
Job’s Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St. in Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.

MHS grads, sorority host Awareness Walk

The Manning High School Class of 1987 joined with the Phi Omega Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to sponsor a Mental Health Awareness Walk on Sept. 23 at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium.
“We were very happy for the many sponsors that helped us to raise more than $1,200 for Santee-Wateree Mental Health Center here in Manning,” said Jacqueline Sheriod-Scott.

Pilot Club preparing for annual Bazaar

Members of the Clarendon County Pilot Club have been busy making their famous biscuits for their upcoming annual Bazaar, which will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Presbyterian Church at Manning. Everyone is invited to come get items for Thanksgiving dinner. Proceeds go for the five scholarships the club gives annually to a senior going into the medical field. The scholarships are given in memory of Dottie McFaddin, who founded the Clarendon County Pilot Club more than two decades ago.

Zeus is a 4-year-old male, black and tan lab mix weighing about 61 pounds. He is current on all of his vaccinations and has been neutered and has tested negative for heart worms. He loves snacks and walks well on a leash. He tends to get nervous with new people, but he warms up in no time! 2 Clarendon residents presented with scholarships

Two Clarendon County natives were presented with scholarships at the 19th annual Black River Missionary Baptist Association Educational Scholarship Banquet, which was held Oct. 13 at Manning Junior High School.
Since 2007, the association has awarded 21 scholarships to first-year college students who are members of affiliated churches of the association and who meet the criteria set forth by the scholarship committee.
Scholarship amounts are $1,500, $1,000 and $500, and they are funded by the affiliated churches and other donations. According to a release from the association, ads were attached this year to the banquet’s program to help reach the … Read the rest
