The Clarendon School District 2 Office of Special Services will host Ronnie Sidney II on Nov. 17. Sydney, the author of "Nelson Beats the Odds," will participate in Career Day at both Manning Elementary and Manning Junior High schools. "Sidney is a licensed clinical social worker, father, therapist, author, app developer, professional speaker and entrepreneur of Essex County, Virginia," reads a release from the district. "When Ronnie Sidney was a middle school student, life was a constant struggle." The release states that Sidney has not forgotten the traumatic struggle he went through in his youth. "Indeed, he's using it to reach children and families who might be going through something similar, with one driving goal: To help make it easier for them and to inspire them not to give up," the release states. The vehicle for that help is his book, "Nelson Beats the Odds." "(It) shares the emotional ups and downs of his own story, adding a healthy dose of perspective that he hopes will de-stigmatize the challenges faced by students with learning disabilities," the release concludes.
