The Clarendon County Coroner's Office has released the identity of a woman killed Friday evening in a wreck outside of Paxville. Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock said that Sumter woman Daisy Taylor, 71, died at the scene of the wreck, which happened about 5:50 p.m. Friday on Bethel Highway near McLeod Road when a vehicle in which she was a passenger hit a disabled Peterbilt tractor trailer truck. Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said the 2005 Peterbilt was partly blocking a portion of the roadway and that a man driving a 2011 Chrysler 300 swerved while traveling south on U.S. 15 - also known as Bethel Highway. The driver overcorrected while trying to avoid the truck and hit the trailer on the back. The driver and a front-seat passenger received injuries. The former was transported to McLeod Health Clarendon, while the latter was transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Taylor was a back seat passenger, Southern said. All of those involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts. Southern said the wreck remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol Multi-jurisdiction Accident Investigation Team. Mock said he waited a day to release the woman's identity as she had an extensive family "spread around the country" and he "wanted everyone to be properly notified."
