CCTC pins 17 new surgical techs

Central Carolina Technical College’s Health Sciences Division pinned 17 new surgical technicians during ceremonies held Aug. 2 in the Iris Room of the Health Science Center in downtown Sumter.

The Health Sciences Division offers diplomas in surgical technology and medical assisting, along with associates degrees in nursing and certificates in massage therapy, medical record coding and pharmacy technology.

The Surgical Technology Diploma program is designed to prepare individuals for employment as surgical technologists, integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery.

The primary responsibility of the surgical technologist is to maintain the sterile field

while ensuring that all other members of the surgical team adhere to aseptic technique. Members of this year’s Diploma in Applied Science with a major in Surgical Technology are listed by county include Clarendon County residents Stacy A. Farley, Haley L. Graham, Kelli N. Mobley, Dawn M. Strickland and Bonnie S. Tice.

Neighboring students receiving the diploma include Kershaw County's Mark A. Gardner and Cara C. Williams; Richland County's JoAnn J. Cook; and Sumter's Jessica Eden Carraway, Leigh A. Coley, Sarah B.
