Man accused of trying to hit mother with stool

The Manning Police Department reported about 10:45 a.m. Dec. 29 that a 23-year-old man living on Huggins Street in Manning allegedly picked up a stool during an argument with his mother and attempted to hit the woman with it, but that family members present intervened to take the stool from him. The woman told police that the two of them got into a verbal argument over $50, and that the young man was blaming his mother of taking the money from him. She denied taking the money, but the two of them were yelling and cursing at each other, witnesses told police, and that's when the man picked up the stool to hit the woman. The woman would not answer any police questions at the scene, reports state. The man was not at the home when police arrived.
