George McCray died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Sumter County, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Ingram McCray.

He attended Sumter County public schools and graduated from Sumter High School. He joined the Job Corps and achieved a Carpentry Certificate of Technical Training from the Atlanta Job Corps Center of Georgia. He was later employed with the Sumter Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for many years.

Survivors besides his mother include four sisters, Louise Pringle, Gloria Nathaniel, Sadie (Terry) Gayle, all of Sumter, and Dolla (John) Young of Olanta; four brothers, Jamie Lee (Shirley) McCray, James (Marrell) McCray, Andrew McCray of Sumter and Jessie (Brenda) McCray of Huntsville, Alabama; seven nephews; three nieces; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, in John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St. in Sumter, with Bishop Tommy Doe officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 880 Boulevard Road in Sumter.

The processional will leave from the home at 11:20 a.m.

Nieces and friends will serve as floral bearers. Brothers and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will be in Mayesville Cemetery in Mayesville.
