Dora Mae Gadson Blanding

ALCOLU - Dora Mae Gadson Blanding, 87, widow of Robert James Blanding Sr., died Monday morning, Oct. 26, 2015, at her home.

Born April 28, 1928, in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Lionel and Mary McKever Gadson.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Lou Ramsey, Geneva Gadson, Mary Jane Gadson, Maggie Preston and Maybell Cochran.

She attended the public schools of Clarendon County. She worked as a laundress and a housekeeper, but most of her life was spent as a devoted homemaker. In her early days, Dora became a member of Cypress Fork AME Church and was a member of the women's choir. On Feb. 26, 1993, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses-Manning Congregation.

Survivors include three sons, Robert J. Blanding Jr., Ernest L. Blanding (Dorene) and Eugene Blanding (Ruby); a sister, Rosa G. Pearson; one sister-in-law, Mary Blanding; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, Paris Blanding; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dora Mae Gadson Blanding will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4342 Greeleyville Highway in Manning. Discourse will be provided by Brother Edward Ross Sr. Burial will follow in Cypress Fork AME Church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1222 Burkewood in Alcolu.
