Regulators advise of rules for testing of private well water

COLUMBIA (AP) — The state Department of Health and Environmental Control is reminding residents about how it handles testing of private well water since the historical flooding. DHEC expanded its office hours for bottle pick-up and drop-off in several counties through Nov. 1 to assist residents whose private wells were flooded. But DHEC does not leave bottles at homes and won't send someone to a home unsolicited. The agency advises homeowners to call law enforcement if they're contacted by someone posing as a government inspector or other emergency responder and that person can't provide adequate identification.
