Clemson announces Clarendon County graduates

Clemson University has announced four students from Clarendon County who have graduated with bachelor’s degrees and one who has graduated with a master’s degree.
Gable native Ryan Thornbrew McNair received a bachelor of science degree in economics.
Manning natives Evelyn Michelle Belt graduated with a bachelor of arts in early childhood education; and Reena Gonzales, cum laude with a bachelor of science in nursing.
Katherine Allyn McClary of Summerton received a bachelor of science in management.
Adam Smith Windham of Manning received a master of architecture in architecture.

Clarendon County Gospel Train annual picnic

The Clarendon County Gospel Train will hold its annual picnic Saturday at Taw Caw Park, with Bible Study at 10 a.m. and a gospel signing starting at noon. Food will be served from 12:30 to 1 p.m. For more information, call John Bannister at (803) 485-2110 or John Mack at (803) 478-5924.

Ella Mae Cooper Eaddy

Funeral services for Ella Mae Cooper Eaddy will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake City, with burial at Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
Samuel and Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born Sept. 29, 1930, in Williamsburg County, Ella Mae Cooper Eaddy was a daughter, and the second of eight children, of the late Ruie and Abbie Janette Wilson Cooper.

Eugene Sweat

SUMMERTON – Eugene “Gene” Sweat, 77, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at his home, 1527 Urbana Road in Summerton.
Born Sept. 10, 1937, in the Live Oak section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Edmond Rollerson and Mattie Sweat Dingle Rollerson.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mattie and Rufus Conyers, 600 Dupree St. in Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

Community celebrates John Canty’s 90th birthday

The Summerton community came together May 2 at the Taw Caw Community Outreach Center to celebrate the 90th birthday of John Canty, known in these parts as Mr. Washington for having served in the White House during several presidential administrations, from 1967-85). Born in 1925 in Silver to James and Susan Martin Canty, he is the youngest of seven children – three boys and four girls.

Tindal chosen as one of 40 under 40

terrance-tindalTerrance Tindal of Summerton has been chosen as one of the Top 40 under 40 by Thomas Media Group LLC of Columbia, the publisher of the SC Blackpages and host of the annual Black Expo.
“We received an overwhelming number of applications this year, which made this a very difficult decision making process for our judges,” says a release from Thomas Medial Group. “We have finalized our selection process and reviewed each nomination, and these will join the ranks of the 2015 40 under 40 class.”
Tindal is a former member of Summerton Town Council and owns Gerome and Company.
