John Lawson, husband of Brenda Jones Lawson, died Monday, June 22, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born July 21, 1952, in Summerton, he was a son of Carrie Briggs Lawson and the late Charlie Lawson. John Lawson was a 1974 graduate of Voorhees College, where he received a bachelor of science degree in business administration. After graduation, he went to work for Federal Mogul Corp. as a quality assurance technician, PPAP coordinator, quality assurance supervisor, quality assurance engineer, quality assurance engineer in the Precision Lab and, until his retirement, he was quality assurance engineer manager.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Sumter, where he served in several capacities. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the game and being with his family.

Survivors besides his wife and his mother include a daughter, Soyini Lawson of North Carolina; a son, Juwan Lawson of Charleston; a grandson, Aaron-Michael Caffery; his in-laws; sisters-in-laws; a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and his golf team and associates.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Lawson Jr.

A public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Job's Mortuary.

John Lawson will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, for viewing until the hour of services.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, at Emmanuel UME Church, 421 S. Main St. in Sumter, with the Rev. Doris Bright, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 933 Clay St. in Sumter.
