The Summerton community came together May 2 at the Taw Caw Community Outreach Center to celebrate the 90th birthday of John Canty, known in these parts as Mr. Washington for having served in the White House during several presidential administrations, from 1967-85). Born in 1925 in Silver to James and Susan Martin Canty, he is the youngest of seven children - three boys and four girls.
