Drew Newman wins Cities Mean Business essay contest

Laurence Manning Academy seventh-grade student Drew Newman was selected by the City of Manning and Main Street Manning as the winner in his age category for the Cities Mean Business Month essay contest. Drew was not available for photographs at a meeting of Manning City Council on Monday where winners were recognized. You can see the second-grade winner at this link, and the fourth-grade winner at this link. Drew answered the prompt, "If I were mayor for a day."   If I was Mayor for a Day If I was mayor for a day I would go to all of the nice stores where I won’t have to pay. Then I would make homework go away Because it really only ever gets done halfway. And since I couldn’t stay I would go into town And arrest anyone wearing a frown. This punishment will cause a bit of fright But I can assure you it will be alright. It is about time for lunch But I won’t need any money for something to crunch. Because you see Everything in the town to eat would be free. This rule would go for everyone else as well And if it wasn’t everyone would probably go scream and yell. I’ve almost finished all my rounds Next thing to do is open some fairgrounds. There will be fast rides, mid speed rides and rides if you want to go slow. Everyone will love it and will want to go. I’d say I would be a pretty cool mayor for a day But I would have to ask you and see what you say.
