Doug Gardner releases trailer for documentary, 'Sea Horses'

The documentary that local and world renown wildlife photographer Doug Gardner is working on for the next two years is more of a "visual feast" than a film, he said.

Gardner is serving as cinematography and field producer on "Sea Horses" with good friend Jared Lloyd, the executive producer and cinematographer.

"Jared lives in the Outer Banks in North Carolina, where these wild horses live," Gardner said. "He has become somewhat of the foremost authority on these horses."

"Sea Horses," Gardner said, will not just detail the daily routine of the wild horses of the Outer Banks, but will explore the myths behind their origins.

"The story behind the wild horses of the Outer Banks is one of epic proportions," he said. "Sand and salt, winds and tides have come together here along these ribbons of sand that we call barrier islands to shape and mold one of the most unique horses on earth."

Gardner is taking Lloyd's passion for storytelling and knowledge of the horses and his own knowledge of how to film it and hopes to "literally create magic."

"We've just begun the first phase of filming, and released the teaser trailer," he said. "This will be funded 100 percent by viewers, and we have set up a page where they can donate."

The audience, he said is the BBC, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel.

"We also hope to release to movie theaters, and we will release on iTunes and Blu-Ray DVD," he said.
