Robert Richard Cokley, 72, husband of 52 years to Willie Mae Cokley, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born Aug. 25, 1941, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late James McBride Jr. and Lucille Kennedy. He attended Clarendon County public schools and New Bethel Church at an early age, later fellowshipping at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Korn Industries until his retirement.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Willie Mae Cokley of the home; three sons, Reggie (Sonia) Cokley, Robert Cokley Jr. and Ernest Cokley; two daughters, Sharon Cokley and Vanessa (Kelvin) Cokley; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Lucille Walters, Luther Mae (Clifton) Collin of Texas, Elzetta (Cephas) Greg, Emma (Scotty) Mangum of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Itleen (Ronnie) Brunson of Jacksonville, Florida, Betty Kennedy of Boston, Massachusetts, Evelyn (Harold) Goodman of Arizona, and Rosa Lee Samuels of Philadelphia; two brothers, Luther (Diane) Kennedy and Major Kennedy, both of Sumter; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today.

Funeral services for Robert Richard Cokley will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Barnes, Pastor J.W. Brunson, Lei-Ferguson-Washington, Pastor D.L. Grant and Minister Angela Edwards. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive visitors at the home, 512 Red and White St. in Sumter.
