A hard rain fell. According to Jeff Linton, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Columbia, rain totals varied from 1 to 4 inches for the 24 hour period ending at 7 a.m. today, with most of the rain falling during last night's inundation. About 3.3 miles northwest of Manning, 3.53 inches of rain fell; about 8.2 miles south of Manning, 3 inches were recorded; Summerton saw 2.4 inches of rain. The Winters Hill Road area totaled 2.7 inches and the Live Oak area saw 5 inches of rain. Today's forecast calls for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 83. The winds are calm and the chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Tonight will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. with a low of around 69. Winds should be calm and chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Linton said the heavy cloud cover should help the atmosphere from getting too unstable and if storms develop, they shouldn't move much. "If another storm comes to the area, it could be heavy rain," he said. "It's hard to say exactly where it will develop." Winds for the lake area should remain light and variable today. On Saturday, winds are expected to reach 10 knots from the northeast.
