The driver of an 18-wheeler who drove the vehicle off the left side of U.S. 15 North about two miles from the Sumter-Clarendon line was transported by Clarendon EMS to Clarendon Memorial Hospital, according to Fire Chief Frances Richbourg. Richbourg and firefighters responded to the wreck about 7:20 a.m. today due to reports of a fuel leak from the truck, which was hauling food products. "The leak wasn't much at all," she said. "Once we got to looking at it, we didn't see that much leaking out." Over the scanner firefighters estimated about 10 gallons of fuel trickled out of the truck, which left the road, overturned and came to rest in a ditch. Richbourg said there was no fire as a result of the wreck, which only involved the truck. "I'm sure it took them a little while to get that thing upright," she said. "And out of the ditch." The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the wreck.
