You’ve got to know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em.
“You can run it any way you can — by boat, car, airplane or helicopter,” said J. Miller of the Goat Island Boat Club, whose husband Bob is the chairman of the Poker Run. “You hit all eight landings — the John C. Land III Landing is the final destination.”
Participants will visit: J & J Lakeside Marina; Lighthouse Pointe Family RV Park & Campground; Baxley’s Restaurant; Lakeview Landing; Fayz Place at Randolph’s Landing; Scarborough’s Landing; Taw Caw Campground & Marina; and Goat Island Restaurant.
Miller said she and her husband expect a huge turnout. The Millers have been involved with the Goat Island Boat Club for about 10 years, she said.
“It’s very important to us and the lake is very important to us,” she said.
The poker run will raise money for a scholarship aimed toward high school and college students and the rest of the money raised “goes back into the lake” in the form of clean-ups or donations to the Department of Natural Resources.
“We spend a good amount of time cleaning up the lake and the surrounding lands,” she said and are interested in maintaing a healthy ecosystem and sustainable fishery population.
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday. Entertainment will be provided by the 4-Way Stop Band.
Participants shouldn’t count their money while sitting at the table, as there will be time enough to count away when the Poker Run’s done.
