Julia Blondell James Boyd, 78, widow of Marion “EJ” Boyd, died  Tuesday, March 19, 2014, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Born June 26, 1935, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Sam James Jr. and Julia Fairey James. She attended Clarendon County public schools and Allen University in Columbia. She was a member of Antioch AME Church from an early age, and after marriage, joined New Hope AME Church.

Survivors include five children, Michael (Evon) Boyd, Marion L. (Mary) Boyd, William C. (Janice) Boyd, Kenneth Boyd and Julia Lenora (Harry) Winkler; three brothers, Washington Carver James, the Rev. Saymon (Daisy) James and Wilkie James; four sisters, Alice (Joe) Cummings, Ruth Diane James, Adrian (Mackey) DesChamps and Florance Knight; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Viewing will be held from 2-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope AME Church with the pastors Jacquelyn Hurston, Stanley Hayes and James Goodman; the Revs. Dorothy B. Boyd and Barry Gadsden; and Apostle Tommy Fredrick. Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home located at 1286 Captain Log Road in Pinewood.
