Habibi of Manning brings Gypsy Spirit to Sumter

Shimmy Mob of Sumter invites you to from 2-5 p.m. Saturday to experience “Gypsy Spirit” at the USC Sumter Nettles Building, 200 Miller Road in Sumter. This will be a free, cultural dance showcasing the talents of Habibi of Manning and guest belly dance troupes, local dance schools and groups and performing artists, and will feature vendors and area organizations. Organizer Donna Alsbrooks said performers will include the Freed School of Performing Arts; Karen Creel, a guitarist from Florence; Rose Alsbrooks of Jung Shin Taekwon Do in Manning; Marcus Octavius, a percussionist and teacher/singer/entertainer from Greenville; Qamar troupe from Athens, Ga.; Rajiyyah from Fayetteville, N.C.; Sbyla from Greenville; and Alina from Charleston. Money raised will go toward the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands and its battered womens' shelter. Come dressed in your gypsy finery and enter the costume contest. Purchase a drawing ticket or two for goods and services donated by our sponsors.
