Johnson's former roommate testifies

Korianda Walker, the former roommate of Justin Jermaine Johnson, testified on Wednesday morning that Johnson came to their home looking for his gun on April 6, 2011, the day that authorities believe Johnson killed his 9-month-old son Jayden and the boy's great-grandmother, 59-year-old Maxine Caraway, at Caraway's home off Carissa Lane in Manning. Johnson's double-murder trial entered its sixth day of continuous testimony on Wednesday. Court was halted Friday afternoon and Monday due to an illness for the jury's foreman. Walker told jurors that Johnson came to her bedroom door about 7:15 or 7:30 a.m. that day and asked for his shotgun, which she kept in her room. Third Circuit Assistant Solicitor Chris DuRant questioned Walker briefly on Wednesday morning about statements to the State Law Enforcement Division in 2011, in which she said that Johnson had asked for bullets about 9:30 a.m. that day. "You're sure your memory is the same now as then?" DuRant asked. "He asked me for his gun and it was early, that's what I remember," Walker answered. SLED regional investigator Tina Carter testified after a short break that Walker indeed said during an interview that Johnson asked for bullets between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. that day. Public Defender Scott Robinson, on cross examination, said Carter's report was wrong in one area - she claimed an interview with Kaisha Caraway, mother of Jayden, happened at the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office, instead of its actual location, Clarendon Memorial Hospital. "Is it possible every now and again you make mistakes?" Robinson said. "Certainly," Carter said. "And you have no video of your interviews?" Robinson asked. "No, but I take notes that I use to type up the (reports)," Carter said. Check back at manninglive.com for further updates from today's proceedings.
