The University of South Carolina Sumter is proud to announce the addition of women's soccer to their seven successful NJCAA Region X Division I Intercollegiate Athletics programs. The new program launched this semester. Recruitment is ongoing as the season begins in the fall of 2020.

"We're excited to bring back our women's soccer program. We've received a lot of support already from the community and USC Sumter student body," said USC Sumter Director of Athletics Adrienne Cataldo.

Joshua Long has been chosen to lead the new team. Before coming to USC Sumter, Long was the head coach for the boys' varsity soccer team at Sumter High School. Previously, he was the varsity and junior varsity coach for the girls' soccer teams at Sumter High School, and the coach for the girls' junior varsity soccer team at Carolina Forest High School. Long's combined record as a high school coach is 47-35. Long also worked as a STEM Teacher at Alice Drive Middle School for three years before coming to USC Sumter. Long graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in recreation and sport management and a minor in journalism.

"I'm excited about this new journey and look forward to a great opening season for the women's soccer program," said Long.

A virtual information meeting about the team has been scheduled for April 15, 2020 at 4pm. If you will be or plan to be a USC Sumter student in the fall of 2020, email Coach Long at JL82@mailbox.sc.edu for details on how to join the virtual meeting.
