Wolverines Wrestle Towards Victory

Posted

The East Clarendon Wolverines Athletics Department has recently branched out with an additional sport.

The very first East Clarendon wrestling team made their debut last week.

The team, led by coach Kevin D. Graham Jr, saw their first matches in Loris and Marion, participating in the SwampFox Duals at the latter. They will play another this Saturday in Lake City, where they will wrestle Fairfield and Lake City at noon.

Graham is excited to start the first wrestling team in East Clarendon History, and hopes it will prove fruitful. He coached as an assistant in Lake City for four years before coming to East Clarendon.

“I saw a need for [wrestling] in this area,” said Graham. “I am kind of an ambassador for the sport, and I want the school to grow. There are no wrestling schools in Florence, Manning, or Turbeville, and the closest you can find is Sumter and Lake City. Besides those two you would have to go to the beach.”

For the time being, the team will only play away games, until East Clarendon aquires the means to host.

On the team are several students from 9th to 12th grade, they are as follows:

Jeremy Baker 10th grade

Matthew Cook 11th grade

Steven Dickey 12th grade

Sahivon Dickson 9th grade

Adam McElveen 10th grade

Luke Robinson 9th grade

Marques Webb 11th grade

TJ Owens 11th grade

Malcolm Dickey 10th grade
