Tourie Richardson Briggs

Tourie Richardson Briggs, 64, died Saturday, November 6, 2021, at NHC of Sumter. 

Born January 13, 1957, in Manning, he was a son of the late James Richardson Briggs and the late Mary Spann Richardson Briggs. He was a member of St. Mark’s Church in Pinewood. Tourie will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was a true southern gentleman and was known and admired for his strength and perseverance through a lifetime of health struggles. 

He is survived by two sisters, Mary S. “Monk” Briggs of Sumter and Norvelle Ann “Norsy” B. Dawson of Ravenel; two nieces, Kate M. Cooper (Ben) of Sumter and Lebby C. Dawson of Summerton; and a nephew, James “Jake” Jacob of Port St. Lucie, FL. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” B. McClary; and a nephew, Matthew R. Jacob. 

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at St. Mark’s Church in Pinewood with The Very Reverend David W.T. Thurlow officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Allen Mathis, Bob Davis, David Tindal, Hartwell Briggs, Roy Belser and Wilson Rickenbaker. 

Honorary pallbearers were Dicky Felder, Paul Joseph, Riley Venning and Skip Davis.
