Three officers from the Summerton Police Department have resigned, and Police Chief Donell Dixon has announced his upcoming retirement, effective April 18, 2025, according to information shared after last night’s Town Council meeting.

Town officials stated that efforts are underway to fill the vacancies with additional qualified officers, and discussions have begun with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office to ensure law enforcement coverage during the transition.

The town expressed appreciation for the service of the departing officers as well as Chief Dixon and emphasized that public safety remains a priority.

This is a developing story. The Manning Times will provide updates as more information becomes available.
