The Rev. Isom Bennie Turner Jr., 84, husband of Vivian White Turner, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at McLeod Health Clarendon.

Born July 23, 1934, in Florence, he was a son of the late Isom Bennie Turner and the late Shelley McKay Strickland Turner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the founding pastor and member of Cornerstone Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church. During his career, he helped build five additional churches and a school. He was a board member of Turbeville Free Will Baptist Children’s Home for ten years and State Free Will Baptist promotional director for five years, including camp director. He was a graduate of Bob Jones University and attended The Citadel for further education.

He is survived by his wife of Manning; a daughter, Patara Turner of Manning; three grandsons, Benjamin Hyman of Charlotte, North Carolina, Vinson Hyman (Alexis) of Manning and Jason Turner-Hyman of Kingstree; and a great-granddaughter, Serenity, due in September.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jason Turner; a brother, Guy Turner; and two sisters, Dorothy Howell and Joann Turner.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Cornerstone Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. John Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Benjamin Hyman, Vinson Hyman, Jason Turner-Hyman, Willard McKay, Van Powell and Kyle Therrell will serve as pallbearers.

All ministers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Cornerstone Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home, 25 N. Barfield St. in Manning.
