Senator Johnson presents check for needy families

Senator Kevin Johnson presented a check to the Clarendon County Community Development Corporation (CCCDC) that will go to helping families throughout Clarendon County.

The check, for the amount of $100,000, will supply assistance with food, children's clothing, or utility bill assistance in the amount of $150.00.

The CCCDC released the following announcment:

“The Clarendon County Community Development Corporation located at 625 Spencer ST., Manning, SC will begin PHASE I of its recent community initiative grant for low-to-moderate income families of Clarendon County. Qualified families may apply for assistance with food, children’s clothing (age 5-15), OR Utility Bill assistance in the amount of $150.00.  Only ONE category per family can be selected. If a family is awarded in PHASE I, they cannot re-apply in PHASE II. All rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding income limits set forth by the SC State Housing Trust Fund will be followed.

Phase I of this grant begins on December 16, 2019 and ends on March 1, 2020. Persons applying need to present the following when returning their applications: Proof of Income, ID, Proof of children living in the household, and a copy of their utility bill. NOTE: IF THE UTILITY BILL BECOMES DUE BEFORE A GRANT DECISION HAS BEEN MADE, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING YOUR BILL AS USUAL.)

Applications may be picked up between the hours of noon - 3:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from the CCCDC office beginning on Dec. 16, 2019.”

This check comes from funding that Johnson requested in the state budget.

“[I requested this money] to help [the CCCDC] as they continue to help others in our community,” said Johnson in a recent Facebook post. “I am proud to have personally brought back millions of dollars to Senate District 36 to help with some very worthwhile projects and to help those who are in desperate need of help.”
