With a passion for agriculture, hospitality, and a love for community, Sadie Serio is stepping into her new role as the Director of Tourism for the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, bringing a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position.
Serio, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, comes from a background deeply rooted in agriculture. Growing up on an Angus cattle farm near Conyers, Georgia, she developed a lifelong passion for farm life, which she has carried with her throughout her varied career. Her journey led her to Charleston in the mid-2000s, where she explored her interests in surfing, horseback riding, and even competed as a member of the College of Charleston Jr. Cougars Equestrian team.
Her professional path began with managing a 100-acre farm in Johns Island, where she honed her skills in agricultural management. However, it was her transition into the hospitality industry that ignited her passion for tourism. Serio thrived in her role as the manager of Guest Services at a beachfront hotel, where she delighted in sharing local knowledge, creating daily itineraries, and uncovering hidden gems for visitors. Her love for tourism deepened further when she managed the Front of House department at a bustling downtown Charleston restaurant, where she thrived in the vibrant atmosphere, connecting with tourists as they explored the area.
Now residing in Sumter, Serio is in the process of building her own farm from the ground up, currently caring for seven horses with plans to expand to cattle and other livestock in the future. Her love for agriculture and hospitality aligns seamlessly with her new role in Clarendon County, where she is eager to contribute to the community.
Serio says she is “thrilled” to immerse herself in the community. “The warmth and support from residents and businesses, along with the abundant growth opportunities, events, and community engagement in Clarendon County, have truly captured my heart,” Serio continued. “I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to contribute … as the new Director of Tourism.”
As the Director of Tourism, Serio will be responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of various establishments within the county’s tourism industry. Her role will involve strategic and financial planning, managing budgets, and marketing the county to promote its attractions and ensure visitor satisfaction. A significant part of her responsibilities will also include staying current with industry trends and finding ways to improve the environmental sustainability of tourism-related activities in Clarendon County.
Her diverse background, from managing a farm to leading hospitality teams, positions her uniquely to promote the county’s offerings, ensuring visitors have memorable experiences while also contributing to the local economy.
Serio’s enthusiasm and dedication to her new role are expected to be a great asset to Clarendon County as it continues to grow as a tourism destination. The community looks forward to the fresh perspective and energy she brings as she works to strengthen the county’s appeal to tourists and residents alike.
