The Manning Garden Club, in association with Manning Jr. High School, hosted a group of competitive collegiate rowers from Pittsburgh for a community service project.
The Robert Morris Colonials Rowing team have been coming down to Camp Bob Cooper for many years as part of a 10-day spring break training camp.
“They row in the morning, and in the evening, and they have so much space in between,” said Garden Club Member Marie Land. “During this time, they look for opportunities to serve our community through public service.”
In previous years, the team has helped in various different capacities, including building houses with Habitat for Humanity. This year, however, they wanted something different.
“We usually build houses, but this year we found this opportunity,” said rower Madeline Green.
The team is helping out at the Manning Jr. High greenhouse, where they are planting different flowers with the Garden Club. The Garden Club has a sale every spring, where they raise funds to put back into the community.
“Our team is really big on community service,” said rower Taylor Boczar. “We have always been like that.”
