OBITUARY: Russell Monroe Riggs Sr.

Russell Monroe Riggs, Sr., 94, widower of Sidelle Poston Riggs, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, at McLeod Health Clarendon.

Born April 8, 1924, in Manning, he was a son of the late Nelson Monroe Riggs and the late Ellosie Smoak Riggs. He was a WWII US Army veteran. He was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

He is survived by two sons, Russell M. Riggs, Jr. (Lola) of Manning and Harold Riggs (Joyce) of Lexington; a daughter, Kathy Ward (Ray) of Manning; seven grandchildren, Darrell Woodard, Denise Godwin, Missey Ward, Sharon Golembesky, Ron Riggs, Michelle Coker and Billy Ward; ten great grandchildren, Kelley Coker, Bethea Lewis, Cory and Lacey Godwin, Seth and Shelley Woodard and Luke, Jake, Katherine and Rachel Golembesky; three brothers, Nelson Riggs, Clyde Riggs and Marion Riggs (Myrtle), all of Manning; and two special pets, Barky and Sissy.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jamie Coker; and a brother, John Riggs.

A private graveside service will be held at the Ridgill Family Cemetery in Manning.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the home of Billy & Missey Ward, 4538 Paxville Highway, Manning.
