Mark Lavern Matthews

Mark Lavern Matthews, 55, husband of Rosy Jackson Matthews, died Monday, August 10, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland. 

Born December 14, 1964, in Lake City, he was a son of the late Bobby Matthews and the late Ruby Evans Matthews. Mark grew up on the family farm in Scranton, graduated from Lake City High School in 1983, and graduated with honors from Florence Darlington Technical College in 1986. He was a US Army National Guard veteran of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, serving as a sergeant for the Kingstree National Guard 1052nd Transportation Company, and was a Purple Heart Recipient. Mark owned and operated MB Construction Company and specialized in the construction of signs. He was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of Manning; two children, Benjamin Mark Matthews of Bennettsville and Liza Matthews of Manning; a granddaughter, Gracelynn Ruby Matthews; and a brother, Johnny Matthews of Scranton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Matthews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Clarendon Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds officiating. 

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.
