Jack Stanley Evans, 79, husband of Julia Rachel Loy Evans, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by his family, from complications of a very quick and aggressive cancer.

Jack was born on May 2, 1945, in Coward. After graduating from Southside High School in 1963, he worked as a railroad man for over two decades. During his second chapter of work, he owned and operated a very successful Little Debbie franchise. He was known as the “sweet Little Debbie man” at scores of stores in the Pee Dee region. In 1965, Jack married Julia Rachel Loy, who stayed by his side for the rest of his life. Together, they had two children, Slade Evans and Sloan Evans Despeaux.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years of Summerton; his daughter, Sloan Evans Despeaux (John Michael) of Sylva, NC; three grandsons, Jack Evans of St. Louis, MO, Abel Despeaux and Angus Despeaux, both of Sylva, NC; three brothers, Luther Evans (Lib), Jeff Evans (Betty), both of Florence, and George Evans of Greer; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Lee Miles Evans, his father, Luther James Evans, Sr., and his son, Jack Slade Evans.

To all who knew him or even met him, Jack was simply larger than life. He loved his family fiercely and was a true friend to many neighbors, fellow fishermen, and poker players. He shared his talents, especially as a cook, and often brought his famous fish stew to friends just because.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the residence, 1346 Fowler Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Rick Atkinson and Jack Rose officiating.

A reception will be held immediately following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Camp Happy Days, a camp for children with cancer held near their beloved lake home, www.camphappydays.org.
