Dorothy “Dot” Hamlin Sargent McCall, 92, widow of Rev. Melvin Eugene Sargent and Dorris “Junior” McCall, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Covenant Place.
Born December 16, 1927, in Liberty, SC, she was a daughter of the late Harlow Judson Hamlin and the late Mary Tinsley Hamlin. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. She was a member of the Summerton Baptist Church where she was active in the many facets of the church ministry, especially the church choir. “Miss Dot” was known far and wide for her gardening skills. People would come to take pictures of her flowers.
She is survived by a son, Danny Craig Sargent (Cindy) of Summerton; a daughter in law, Donna Sargent of Orangeburg; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Melvin Eugene Sargent; her second husband, Dorris “Junior” McCall; a son, Jerry Randall Sargent; and a daughter, Pamela Sargent Stone.
The family will have a “Celebration of Life Service” at a later date.
