Donald Tompkins Marshall, 89, of Kiawah Island, SC, beloved husband of Anna Marie O'Brien Marshall died Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Services will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Don was born October 29, 1933 in Schenectady, New York, son of the late Allen D. Marshall and Margaret Leahy Marshall. 

Don completed his undergraduate study at St. Lawrence University and earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Columbia University. He began his professional career as an executive management trainee with Union Carbine, becoming head of one of its European divisions. When Don retired from business at age 65, he was Chairman of the Board and CEO of Sun Distributors, a leading publicly traded national distribution company of some 100,000 industrial products with its headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. 

In his private life, Don was an avid outdoorsman. Shortly after his retirement, he bought Silver Lakes Plantation which he restored as a private wildlife preserve and enjoyed for over 20 years with family, friends and the community. 

Handsome and good-humored, Don will be remembered most by all who knew him for his willingness to provide opportunities for others and the generosity, respect and appreciation he showed all. He served as a trustee of St. Lawrence University and was a member of Pine Valley Golf Club and Kiawah Island Golf Club. Don was also a member of the SC Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited and Safari Club International. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Anna Marie; three children: Amy Marshall Meade; Scott Fisher Marshall (Lizabeth) and Jennifer O'Brien Marshall; three grandchildren: Christopher Meade, Katherine Marshall and Elizabeth Marshall; niece, Laurie Marshall Lauria (James); nephew, John T. Marshall (Ingrid); and five great-nieces and nephews: John C. Lauria, Emma Lauria, Sophia Marshall, Briana Marshall and John L. Marshall. 

Don was predeceased by his brother, Dr. John Leahy Marshall; sister-in-law, Janet VansArsdale Marshall; and son-in-law, John Meade.
