The Clarendon County Council has approved an additional paid holiday for county employees on Friday, December 27, 2024, as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work throughout the year.
The decision was made during the council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, following a request from County Administrator Lynden Anthony. Anthony highlighted that Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year, with the current holiday schedule including closures on Dec. 24, 25, and 26. He proposed extending the holiday break to include Dec. 27 as an administrative day off.
“This additional day off is a further sign of our appreciation to staff and employees,” Anthony said. He noted that a similar measure was implemented in 2013 under comparable circumstances.
Council Chairman Dwight Stewart invited questions before calling for a motion, which was promptly approved by council members.
County offices will now be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Dec. 27, reopening on Monday, Dec. 30.
