CCSD Board holds brief monthly meeting, budget meeting set for June

The Clarendon County School District Board of Trustees held a meeting on May 13th, discussing various administrative and financial matters.

The meeting commenced with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, the board approved the minutes from the April 8 meeting without opposition.

In the financial report for March, local sources contributed $22,490.57, bringing the year-to-date total to $11,875,962.19. State sources added $3,433,703.99, with the year-to-date figure at $20,709,185.61. The total collections for March were $3,555,577.13, making the year-to-date total $32,800,561.45. Expenditures for March totaled $3,675,737.35, with a year-to-date expenditure of $31,647,481.19.

The board delayed a public hearing on the 2025 budget to the June 3rd meeting due to a miscommunication.

The second reading of the 2024-2025 general fund budget was presented. Adjustments included a reduction in state revenue by $205,535.14 based on the latest Senate projections, changing the total general fund revenue to $48,388,851.19. Expenditure adjustments were made for staffing changes and updated price information, resulting in a balanced budget. The board approved the second reading unanimously.

The board also approved the second and final reading of policy EFE, which regulates competitive food sales and vending machine contents in schools, with no changes from the previous reading.

A motion was made to enter into executive session to discuss employee hiring matters for the upcoming school year and the release of a student. Upon returning from executive session, a motion to release the student was made and carried.

Board member Ceth Land ended the meeting encouraging other board members and attendees in the audience to visit the Turbeville Ruritan Club’s Facebook page to watch the video of a recent Town Hall meeting. The meeting was held on May 9 to give Clarendon County residents the opportunity to learn more about the penny sales tax that benefits CCSD students and staff.

Clarendon County School District will hold a public hearing on the 2024-2025 fiscal year General Operating Budget at 5:30 p.m. on June 3 rd at Manning High School Lecture Hall, located at 2155 Paxville Highway.

The total revenue and expenditures for 2023-2024 is $46,096,845.34. The proposed estimated revenue and expenditures for 2024-2025 total $48,388,851.90, an estimated change of 4.97%. The district’s current millage is 168.9 and the proposed millage required to support the budget for 2024-2025 is 192.2 mills.
