Catherine Elizabeth "Betty" Stanley Strange

Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Stanley Strange, 79, widow of James “Jimmy” Wesley Strange, Sr., died Friday, April 28, 2023, at Dominion Senior Living in Anderson.

Born December 18, 1943, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ira Columbus Stanley and the late Catherine Langley Palmer Stanley. Betty worked for Manning First Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, Missions, Bible School, and was a member of the Sanctuary choir, Silver Chords Senior Adult choir, Hand Bell choir, and served as a chaperone for New Hope Youth choir and on mission trips. She was past Worthy Matron of Beauclair Chapter #20 Order of the Eastern Star, and district deputy of District #17 Order of the Eastern Star. Betty was a volunteer at Clarendon Memorial Hospital and a member of Clarendon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former member of Red Cross Disaster Relief Team of Manning and a former member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, and a former Cub Scout leader. She was a member of Manning First Baptist Church and the Harleen Britton Sunday School class.

She is survived by two sons, James Wesley Strange, Jr. (Stephanie) of Irmo and Christopher Michael Strange of Anderson; a sister, Carol McCoy of Sumter; a grandson, Ethan James Strange; a sister-in-law, Shirley Strange Stanley of Fayetteville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Ira Cords Stanley; a sister, Marianne Palmer Stanley; and a brother-in-law, David Eugene Strange.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Manning First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds and Rev. William L. Selman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Roberson, Kevin Roberson, Dal Stanley, Lynn Setzer, Jason Setzer, and Andrew Setzer.

Visitation was one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Heritage Room of Manning First Baptist Church.
