Body found in Manning; suspect still at large

On the morning of December 27, 2019, Clarendon County Sheriff’s office responded to a call in which a body was discovered lying in the dirt portion of the roadway near Camilla Drive.  Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim in the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds.  EMS arrived on the scene and determined that the victim was deceased.  The SLED Crime Scene Unit was called to assist Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office with the processing and investigation of the scene. 

The name of a 19-year-old Manning man who was killed has been released by the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office.

“Martavis McKenzie was the victim of a homicide,” Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock said. “An autopsy will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Monday to determine cause of death.”

Mock said that the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were conducting the investigation.
