Betty Jean Tanner Gentry

Betty Jean Tanner Gentry, 86, widow of Thomas Henry Gentry, died Sunday, December 15, 2019, at her residence.

Born June 30, 1933, in Marion, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Samuel Tanner and the late Reba Grace Lane Tanner. She was a member of Summerton Baptist Church and was a retired postal worker with the US Post Office.

She is survived by four daughters, Pamela G. Richbourg (Jimmy) of Sumter, Cathy G. McCord, Betty G. Phillips, both of Manning, and Margaret G. Floyd of Germantown, MD; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Johnny P. Tanner (Molly) of Myrtle Beach and Harold F. Tanner of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, William J. Tanner.

A private memorial service will take place at a later date.

The family will receive guests at the home, 1399 Peggy Lane, Manning.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Pam Weinberg, Dr. Marva Williams and Crescent Hospice for the love and care they showed to Mrs. Gentry. The family also wishes to thank Alex Boykin, Sandra Murdaugh, Kim Ridgeway and Mary Taylor for the excellent care and compassion they gave to their mother.
