Posted by Robert Joseph Baker | February 6, 2014 4:29 pmAn 18-year-old man died early Thursday morning after two men attempted to rob him and his 29-year-old uncle, according to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. Johnte Shaheed Holliday of 6509 Furse Road in Summerton was pronounced dead at Clarendon Memorial Hospital about 2:56 a.m. Thursday. Holliday’s uncle told deputies that his nephew let in two men he thought to be his uncle’s acquaintances shortly after 12 a.m. He said the men then demanded money, took a shotgun valued at $200 and began shooting after hitting the older man in the head. Posted by Robert Joseph Baker | February 6, 2014 2:33 pmSheriff Randy Garrett told WIS-TV in Columbia earlier that 18-year-old Johnte Shaheed Holliday was shot and killed just before 12 a.m. Thursday at his uncle’s home in Summerton. Born Dec. 16, 1945, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Warren Plowden Sr. and Lula Johnson Plowden. The family will receive friends at the home, 1474 Herod Drive in Manning. DuBose Center outside of Manning shut down for a short time on Wednesday after an overheated motor caused a lot of smoke. Clarendon Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said there was no fire, but that one of three power lines heading into the school quit working, causing the motor to work harder and, therefore, overheat. “No one was hurt, and there wasn’t any significant damage,” she said.

Posted by Robert Joseph Baker | February 5, 2014 10:25 amNelson Heyward, 36, of 16 Falcon Court in Georgetown, was charged about 5:25 p.m. Jan. 19 with failure to stop for a blue light, first offense; shoplifting, third or subsequent offense; and reckless driving. According to reports, deputies tried to arrest Heyward at a store on Paxville Highway in Manning after he allegedly took “underwear and bracelets” valued at about $100. Heyward got into his vehicle and drove away, leading police and Clarendon County deputies on a chase after attempting multiple traffic stops. Reports do not indicate where Heyward was finally stopped.

Posted by Robert Joseph Baker | February 4, 2014 4:18 pmA small Christmas tree was apparently the only thing an unknown suspect wanted from three storage units he/she allegedly broke the locks to between 2:12 and 3:12 p.m. Jan. 20. The units’ 58-year-old owner told police that the building closest to her home in the 1200 block of Charles Drive in Manning had only a Christmas tree valued at about $25 taken from it.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Theo “Buster” Elmore Sr., Mae Boykin Elmore and Pauline B. Elmore. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he served as an active deacon and a former Sunday school teacher. He retired as the director of Sumter County EMS.
