Boating accident leads to death on the lake

boat_accidentboat_accidentA 21-year-old Sumter woman was killed early Friday morning on Lake Marion due to a boating accident. Capt. Robert McCullough of the state Department of Natural Resources said Hailey Joann Bordeaux was on a boat with three others when it was struck by another boat in the lake. Clarendon Deputy Coroner Charles Jackson said Friday morning that Bordeaux appeared to have a broken neck. Her body is being taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for autopsy on Saturday. McCullough said no charges have been filed in the incident yet. Sumter woman dies on Lake Marion

A Sumter woman was declared dead about 1:17 a.m. Friday at Clarendon Memorial Hospital after an incident on Lake Marion. Hailey Joanne Bordeaux died from injuries that appeared to include a broken neck, said Clarendon Deputy Coroner Charles Jackson. Nellie Mae Powers, age 73, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital after an illness. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Myrick Cleveland Powers and Martha Tanner Powers. She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. Surviving are a brother, Rev. Jesse Powers of Charleston and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Good Hope United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
